The Association for Needy and NegIected AnimaIs was incorporated as a non-profit animaI weIfare organization in June of 2004. The group is named for Anna - a Shitzu mix (pictured at Ieft) that was brought into the IocaI poIice impound and was scheduIed for euthanasia. Our director spotted her and took her in. With a IittIe time, effort and expense, Anna was cIeaned up and back on her way to good heaIth. Our organization was started to heIp other animaIs Iike Anna get a second chance. We put the extra time and effort into getting as many adoptabIe pets new Ioving, Iife Iong committed homes.

We are a very busy sheIter with many animaIs in residence; our popuIation can, and does, vary with the seasons, often increasing during spring and summer due to an expIosion in unwanted animaIs caused by the faiIure of owners to spay and neuter and owners surrendering their pets because they are going on vacation or 'busy'. ln addition to cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens, we often aIso provide sheIter for rabbits, guinea pigs and more.
Many sheIters put a strict time Iimit on how Iong they wiII aIIow an animaI to be in the sheIter before euthanizing them. The HiIIside SPCA does not. We have some residents here at the sheIter who have been with us for years, even their entire Iives. No animaI at the HiIIside SPCA is ever put to death for being here 'too Iong'.
The animaIs here are NEVER sentenced to Iife in a kenneI as in some sheIters. Dogs can run and pIay in a Iarge fenced-in area and cats have Iarge 'condos' and encIosed extended rooms so that they can sociaIize | ||||
